Webinar: Flexible Building Code Framework for Emerging Economies
November 12 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
The ASHRAE Center of Excellence for Building Decarbonization (CEBD) is launching a global project to develop a flexible building code framework for emerging economy countries. Eighty-two percent of population growth through 2030 is expected in emerging economies, where many countries lack mandatory energy codes. This project seeks to streamline the development and adoption of consensus-based national/subnational model building codes, supporting tools, and training through the development of a building energy/carbon code needs and capabilities assessment tool as well as expert guidance for multi-stakeholder collaboration. This seminar will summarize the current state of global building energy code adoption, discuss key design and implementation elements of the proposed flexible building code framework, and review a successful case study of national/subnational building code collaboration in Colombia. The session will close with a discussion on how ASHRAE members around the world can contribute to this project activity and its pilot implementation in target countries.
