Flight Powered by Nature
Challenge Complete… and Beyond!
What began as an ambitious 1,000 km challenge has finished at an incredible 1,313 km.
Bogdan Manoiu has successfully completed the Flight Powered by Nature challenge, with his final flight in Rieti, Italy, adding another 431 km at an average speed of 126 km/h — powered entirely by nature.
But this journey has always been about much more than gliding.
The ASHRAE UK Chapter would like to give a very special thank you to Bogdan and his wife, Andreea, for the extraordinary amount of time, energy, commitment and personal support they have given to making this campaign possible.
ASHRAE Chapters are powered by volunteers. It is through people giving their time, expertise, enthusiasm and ideas that initiatives such as Flight Powered by Nature can happen — creating awareness, bringing our industry together and helping raise funds that can make a meaningful and lasting difference.
Why Research Promotion matters
The ASHRAE Research Promotion (RP) Campaign manages and supports both Society- and Chapter-level fundraising. Research remains the primary fund of the campaign, alongside support for education and ALI, YEA programs, scholarships, endowed research through the ASHRAE Foundation and the General/Unrestricted Fund.
For Flight Powered by Nature, this gives the campaign a wider purpose. By supporting RP, we are helping support the knowledge, people and research that can contribute to the future development of building science, engineering and decarbonization.
Every flight, every donation, every share and every conversation generated by this challenge has helped bring greater attention to that mission.
The flight challenge is complete. The research challenge continues.
A huge thank you to Bogdan, Andreea, and everyone who has donated, shared, supported and encouraged the campaign along the way.

Now we would like to keep that momentum going.
